Capability at every turn: The 2018 Ford Edge integrates power, performance and handling with technology that inspires confidence behind the wheel. The original crossover utility vehicle from Ford has the features and capabilities to help you multitask your way through the challenges of career, family, and everything else that pulls you in different directions. Give credit to its Intelligent AWD (standard on Sport and available on all other models), the electric power-assisted steering, and the spacious 39.2 cu. ft. of cargo room behind the second row.
Intelligent AWD uses sensors to constantly monitor traction to assist you through all types of weather and various road conditions. It balances torque between the front and rear wheels to enhance handling and maximize traction, typically before wheelslip can even occur.
Available on Edge SEL and Titanium, along with either the standard twin-scroll 2.0L EcoBoost® or available 3.5L Ti-VCT V6 engine, the Class II Tow Package has a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds. Trailer sway control helps you tow confidently by automatically determining from the motion of the vehicle if the trailer is swaying. It then takes measures, such as applying precise braking or reducing engine torque, to help keep both the vehicle and the trailer under control.
Traction control uses the engine to limit wheelspin by reducing engine throttle output. It's a smart way to help you stay in control. Standard on all 2018 Edge models, Individual Tire Pressure Monitoring System monitors air pressure amounts for each tire and will illuminate a warning light on the cluster screen if the pressure on any one of your tires goes below the recommended tire inflation level.
The total passenger volume is 113.9 cu. ft. with 39.2 cu.ft. behind the second row. And when the second-row seats are folded down, you'll find up to 73.4 cu. ft. of cargo space behind the front row. There's also the available second-row EasyFold® seat release that lets you maximize your cargo space with the touch of a button.
With the Intelligent Access key in your pocket or purse, just give a little kick under the rear bumper and the available hands-free, foot-activated liftgate automatically opens - making it easier to load and unload cargo. You can also adjust the liftgate height, which is helpful for lower overhangs.
The optional 3.5L twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) V6 delivers 280 horsepower and 250 lb.-ft. of torque.68 With conventional valve timing, the intake and exhaust valves have to open and close at a fixed point, compromising performance. But Ti-VCT virtually eliminates this compromise. With its variable control of valve cam timing, Ti-VCT can optimize performance across the entire low, mid and high ranges of the power band to match driving conditions.
Auto Start-Stop Technology is standard on SE 2.0L EcoBoost® FWD models and can help reduce fuel consumption and vehicle emissions during city driving. When the vehicle comes to a stop and is idle, the engine automatically shuts off and then seamlessly restarts when you step on the accelerator or when your foot leaves the brake pedal.
Adaptive cruise control & forward collision warning with brake support: Available adaptive cruise control isn't conventional cruise control. When its radar sensor detects traffic slowing ahead, your vehicle also slows down.10 After traffic has cleared, your vehicle resumes the preset speed. This system lets the driver set distance, speed and the time gap between vehicles. Another feature, forward collision warning with brake support, can alert you if it senses a potential collision with the car in front of you. A heads-up display will flash on the windshield. Adaptive cruise control is included in the Ford Safe and Smart™ package.
The available BLIS with cross-traffic alert helps make driving more convenient. It uses radar to detect a vehicle in your blind spot and can alert you with an indicator light in the appropriate exterior mirror. Cross-traffic alert helps detect traffic approaching from the sides when you're slowly backing out of parking spots. Included in the available Technology Package.
The available Lane-Keeping System includes both the lane-keeping alert and the lane-keeping aid. The system can operate during the day or night. Lane-keeping alert warns you through a series of steering wheel vibrations, which mimic driving over a rumble strip, should the system detect an unintentional lane departure. Lane-keeping aid actively applies steering torque, which alerts you to direct your vehicle back into the target lane should the system detect an unintended lane departure.
The Safety Canopy System deploys first- and second-row side-curtain airbags for outside passenger head protection in the event of a rollover accident. They are designed to inflate between an occupant's head and the side window, even when an occupant's head is leaning toward the window.
The standard rear view camera provides a video image on the center console screen of the area behind your vehicle when in Reverse. The screen has guides and a zoom feature that help you align your vehicle with a trailer when you want to tow. The available 8-inch screen is shown.
Standard on all models, the individual Tire Pressure Monitoring System monitors show air pressure amounts for each tire and will illuminate a warning light on the cluster screen if any one of your tire's pressure goes below the recommended tire inflation level.
Available rear inflatable outboard safety belts combine the attributes of safety belts and airbags. The shoulder belt developed for the outboard rear seats contains an airbag. During a crash, sensors determine when the inflatable belt should deploy and signal the belt's tubular airbag to rapidly inflate with compressed gas.
At slow speeds and using multiple camera views, Edge helps you see around corners and down alleys, thanks to the available 180-degree camera located in the grille.
