Simply ingenious: 2018 Ford Flex makes life on the road smart and convenient with a host of optional amenities. Advanced technologies like BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, active park assist, Intelligent Access with push-button start and rain-sensing wipers help ensure confidence on any drive.
The available 3.5L EcoBoost has an EPA-estimated rating of 15 city/21 hwy/17 combined mpg. Teamed up with the traction and handling of Intelligent all-wheel drive, the EcoBoost generates 365 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque. Available on the Limited.
The six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission is standard on all models. Its push-button shift activation (on the left side of floor shifter, shown) lets you override automatic operation and enjoy the feel of a manual. The Flex Limited model, powered by the available 3.5L EcoBoost® engine, has steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters that provide the same manual control over gear selection.
AdvanceTrac® with RSC® (Roll Stability Control™) uses gyroscopic sensors to measure both vehicle roll and turning rates. Corner too quickly or swerve to avoid an object and RSC applies brake pressure and reduces engine power to help keep your vehicle under control. And it all happens in the time it takes to blink an eye. Available trailer sway control works with RSC to determine if the trailer is swaying. If necessary, trailer sway control applies precise braking or adjusted engine torque to help bring both vehicle and trailer under control. Trailer sway control is included in the Class III Trailer Tow Package for SEL and Limited.
Intelligent AWD sensors balance torque between the front and rear wheels to enhance handling and maximize traction, typically before wheelslip can even occur. This helps keep the vehicle sure-footed in a variety of conditions - such as slippery surfaces. Available on the SEL and Limited. Standard on the Limited when equipped with the available 3.5L EcoBoost® engine.
When the available Intelligent Access key is in your pocket or purse near the driver's door, the system senses the key is nearby. Then, with a simple touch of the door handle, unlock the driver's door or all the doors. Once inside, just press the brake pedal and then the start button. Shift into gear and go. Standard on SEL and Limited.
For added convenience, 2018 Ford Flex offers an available power liftgate. Press a button on the key fob or inside the cabin and the available power liftgate opens or closes. Flex features lots of smart storage space. A first-row console, first and second-row door storage pockets, map pockets behind the first-row seats, third-rowstorage in the armrests and a large lockable glove compartment allow for storing smaller items.
At the touch of a button, the available PowerFold® third-row seat can be folded for a flat load floor and additional cargo room. In the upright position, it comfortably seats two passengers. Available on the Limited. Simply fold the third-row seats flat for 43.2 cu. ft. of room. Fold the second-row seats flat for a total of up to 83.2 cu. ft.
Available active park assist is designed to help make parallel parking a breeze. While driving slowly by parking spots, simply activate this feature and it scans for available parking spaces. Ultrasonic sensors measure the distance to the curb and other parked cars. Once the right spot is identified, you're signaled to stop and accept the system's assistance. You control the shifting, accelerating and braking.
The 2018 Ford Flex SE and SEL have standard heated exterior mirrors and SEL offers available security approach lamps. The Limited has power-folding mirrors with security approach lamps and memory for up to two drivers.
Get a clear picture of what's behind you with the standard rear view camera. Put the vehicle in reverse and the standard rear view camera automatically displays the image of what's behind your vehicle as you're slowly backing up. Backup assist grid lines make it easy to navigate in reverse. Shown on the available 8-inch center-stack screen.
Available BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) with cross-traffic alert helps boost driving confidence. Radar technology identifies if a vehicle is detected in your blind spot and alerts you with an indicator light in the appropriate exterior mirror. Cross-traffic alert also uses radar to watch for traffic behind your vehicle as you're slowly backing out of a parking spot or driveway. If cross-traffic sensors detect a vehicle approaching from up to 15 yards away, you will be audibly and visually alerted.
The SecuriCode, standard on all Flex models, lets you unlock and lock the driver's door as well as the other doors and the liftgate. It also illuminates the interior. Tire Pressure Monitoring System: standard in all 2018 Ford Flex models, this system alerts you when your tire pressure falls below recommended levels. Not included on the spare tire.
When activated by the driver, the available rain-sensing wipers on Flex turn on when rain or snow is detected on the windshield. You can select the sensitivity level.
The standard Personal Safety System includes dual-stage front airbags, safety belt pretensioners, safety belt energy-management retractors, safety belt usage sensors, driver's seat position sensor, crash severity sensor, restraint control module and Front-Passenger Sensing System.
The Reverse Sensing System, standard on all models, emits a series of beeps when you're nearing certain objects behind the vehicle. The closer you get to the object, the quicker the beeps.
